What material is typically used for the shaft of ZS soft-tooth surface reducers?
The shaft of ZS soft tooth surface reducer is usually made of 45 grade steel or 40Cr steel, and is quenched and tempered to meet the requirements of strength and wear resistance.1、 Conventional selection of shaft materials
1. 45 steel (mainstream choice)
Applicable scenarios: It is the most common shaft material in ZS series soft tooth surface reducers for medium and low speed, light load, or stable operating conditions.

Heat treatment process: quenching and tempering (quenching+high-temperature tempering), with hardness controlled at 220-250 HBS, balancing strength and cutting performance.
Advantages: Low cost, stable supply, mature technology, suitable for large-scale production.
Matching gears: often used in conjunction with quenched and tempered gears made of 45 steel, with a coordinated material system and minimal heat treatment deformation.
2. 40Cr steel (heavy load upgrade option)
Applicable scenarios: working conditions with moderate impact loads, high rotational speeds, or higher reliability requirements, such as ZS75 and above models in mining and metallurgical equipment.
Heat treatment process: also subjected to quenching and tempering treatment, the hardness can reach 240-280 HBS, and the strength and toughness are better than 45 steel.
Advantages: With stronger anti fatigue performance, it can effectively prevent journal wear and fatigue fracture, and extend the overall lifespan of the machine.
Judgment criteria: Due to concentrated load, 40Cr is preferred for the high-speed shaft (input shaft); 45 steel is selected for the low-speed shaft (output shaft) depending on the working conditions.
2、 Key influencing factors of material selection
3、 Suggestions for matching materials with other components
Gear material: Soft tooth surface gears are mostly made of 45 steel normalized or quenched and tempered (HB 170-210), which forms a good fit with the 45 steel shaft.
Usually cast iron (such as HT250) is used to ensure rigidity and vibration reduction performance.
Bearing configuration: Select high-quality domestic bearings to ensure the overall stability of the shaft system.
