How to calculate the heat generation of R series helical gear reducer

The core principle of calculating the heat generation of the R series helical gear reducer is to calculate the power lost during transmission, as this lost mechanical energy is directly converted into thermal energy.

The following are the specific calculation steps and core formulas:

1. Core calculation formula

The heat generation (i.e. power loss) of the gearbox can be calculated by the input power and total efficiency:

P_loss = P_in × (1 - η)

P_loss: Heat generation/power loss (usually in kW or W)

P_in: Input power of gearbox (kW or W)

η: The total transmission efficiency of the gearbox (in decimal form, such as 0.97)

2. Determine key parameters

Input power (P_in): Simply check the rated power on the nameplate of the motor driving the reducer.

Overall efficiency (η): The single-stage transmission efficiency of the R series helical gear reducer is usually between 97% and 98%. If it is a multi-stage reducer, the total efficiency is the product of the efficiencies of each stage.

For example, a two-stage R-series gearbox has a total efficiency of η=0.97 × 0.97 ≈ 0.94 (i.e. 94%).

3. Actual Calculation Example

Assuming you have an R series two-stage helical gear reducer with a matching motor input power of 5.5 kW, the total transmission efficiency of the reducer is about 94%.

Substitute formula: P_loss=5.5 kW × (1-0.94)=5.5 × 0.06=0.33 kW

Calculation result: The heat generated by this reducer during full load operation is approximately 330 watts (W).
