Vertical installation and horizontal installation differ fundamentally in structure and lubrication. If improperly handled, they can easily lead to severe failures such as oil leakage and bearing burnout. The following are key considerations for vertical installation:1. The oil seal of a standard horizontal gear reducer is designed to withstand horizontal forces. When installed vertically, lubricating oil tends to accumulate at the bottom due to gravity, which can easily breach the oil seal and cause leakage.
Correct approach: Choose vertical-specific series such as NGW-L or specify it clearly during ordering. The manufacturer will install oil leakage rings and special skeleton oil seals for such models to counteract oil pressure in the vertical direction.
Prohibited: Forcing the horizontal reducer to be installed vertically will almost make the oil leakage problem unsolvable.

2. The lubrication system is crucial
Vertical installation imposes higher demands on lubrication, requiring full lubrication of the upper bearing as well.
Oil Level Inspection: After installation, always check the oil level through the sight glass to ensure it falls within the specified range on the scale. Vertical installation may require more lubricating oil than horizontal installation.
Lubrication method:
Oil bath lubrication: It is necessary to ensure that the internal oil flinger or splash structure can effectively deliver lubricating oil to the upper bearings to prevent overheating and damage due to insufficient oil.
Forced lubrication: For high-power or high-speed operating conditions, a circulating lubrication system should be employed, ensuring stable oil pump pressure and unobstructed oil flow.
Lubricant Selection: Choose the appropriate lubricating oil based on the working environment temperature. In low-temperature environments, measures must be taken to ensure the oil temperature remains above 10°C, or use low-temperature synthetic oil.
3. Installation Precision and Specifications
The installation quality directly determines the lifespan and smooth operation of the reducer.
Coaxiality Calibration: This is the "lifeline." A dial indicator or laser alignment instrument must be used to ensure the coaxiality deviation between the motor shaft and the input shaft of the reducer is controlled within 0.05mm. Poor alignment can lead to abnormal vibration, noise, and even shaft breakage.
Base requirements: The installation base must be level, sturdy, and sufficiently rigid. If the ground is uneven, forcibly tightening the bolts will cause the box body to deform and damage the gear meshing clearance.
Bolt Tightening: Use a torque wrench to gradually tighten in 2-3 steps following a diagonal sequence to the specified torque, preventing over-tightening on one side that could cause flange or housing deformation.
Violent installation is strictly prohibited: When installing couplings or pulleys, it is absolutely forbidden to strike the output shaft directly with a hammer. A copper rod should be used as a buffer or a screw-driven insertion method should be adopted to avoid damaging internal bearings and oil seals.
