The ABB AMI 400L10A is a compact modular high-voltage squirrel-cage induction motor developed on the mature AMI product platform, with rated power ranging from 250kW to 400kW, 10-pole design, synchronous speed of 600rpm, rated voltage 3000V and 50Hz frequency. Designed and manufactured in accordance with IEC and NEMA international standards, this welded steel-plate motor is suitable for S1 continuous heavy-duty operation. The standard configuration adopts IC611 air-to-air closed cooling and IP55 protection grade. Its modular mechanical structure allows flexible adjustment of cooling units, monitoring sensors and auxiliary components to meet diverse site operating conditions. It is widely used in mining, water conservancy, cement, petrochemical and thermal power industries to drive low-speed heavy-load equipment such as slurry pumps, large fans and agitators.

The electromagnetic design of the motor is optimized through finite element simulation under multiple working conditions, specially adapted to the low-speed load characteristics of 10-pole motors, adapting to long-term continuous operation and frequent partial-load working conditions of pumps and mixing equipment. The stator core is laminated with high-quality low-loss silicon steel sheets to reduce iron loss, stray loss and magnetic leakage under full load and partial load. The stator winding uses high-grade corona-resistant magnet wire and undergoes complete VPI vacuum pressure impregnation treatment. The reinforced winding end structure improves mechanical strength, dielectric performance and electrical aging resistance, which can resist voltage fluctuation and repeated starting impact of industrial power grid. The rotor adopts heavy-duty copper bar squirrel cage structure, with strong mechanical rigidity, low rotor loss and stable starting performance. Each rotor is calibrated by multi-stage high-precision dynamic balance to control vibration and noise within the limits specified by IEC for long-term low-speed continuous operation.
The welded modular steel plate frame is a key feature of the ABB AMI series, which supports flexible matching of cooling systems and auxiliary accessories according to site environments. The standard IC611 air-to-air closed cooling system is equipped for AMI 400L10A. Two independent air loops are arranged inside the motor: the internal hot air circulates in the sealed frame and transfers heat to the external ambient air through the top-mounted air-to-air heat exchanger. The IP55 enclosure can effectively prevent dust intrusion and splash water, making it applicable to humid and dusty industrial sites where open ventilated motors cannot work stably. For working sites with poor ambient air quality or insufficient heat dissipation conditions, IC81W air-to-water cooling scheme can be selected to improve heat exchange efficiency.
The bearing system is customized for 10-pole low-speed heavy-load continuous working scenarios. Heavy-duty rolling bearings are standard for this frame, and sliding bearings can be provided for high-power sections or working conditions with large impact loads. PT100 temperature sensors can be pre-installed in stator windings and bearing chambers at the factory, feeding real-time temperature data to the factory DCS system for remote status monitoring and overtemperature protection. Space heaters are optional to avoid winding condensation when the motor is shut down and standby. For variable frequency energy-saving transformation projects, IC616 cooling version can be provided to ensure sufficient cooling air volume under low-speed variable frequency operation. Optional custom services include ATEX explosion-proof modification, high-altitude adaptation, tropical moisture-proof and anti-corrosion coating, special junction box layout and double shaft extension to meet complex project requirements.
Typical driven equipment includes slurry pumps, large induced draft fans, mixing machines and low-speed centrifugal pumps. The motor can adopt direct-on-line starting or high-voltage soft starter starting according to the short-circuit capacity of the on-site power grid. Before delivery, each motor will pass complete factory acceptance tests, including insulation resistance test, power frequency withstand voltage test, no-load operation test, efficiency inspection, vibration and noise measurement. Relying on ABB’s proven AMI modular platform, AMI 400L10A delivers stable operation, convenient spare parts replacement and low life-cycle cost for critical low-speed heavy-duty industrial applications.
