Oil Leakage Fault Diagnosis and Comprehensive Solution for Ball Mill Reducer
1、 Core Fault Troubleshooting GuideThe culprit of oil leakage in reducers is often not a single component. When investigating, it is important to focus on the following core areas:
Ventilation cap (respirator) blockage: This is an easily overlooked culprit of oil leakage. When the gearbox is running, the internal temperature rises. If the ventilation cap is blocked by coal powder, oil sludge and other debris, the internal pressure cannot be released. The strong air pressure will forcefully squeeze the lubricating oil out of any gaps such as oil seals and joint surfaces.
Wear of output shaft bearings: Once the bearings supporting the output shaft wear and the clearance increases, the output shaft will experience eccentric shaking (radial jumping) when rotating at high speeds. This high-frequency vibration can quickly wear out the oil seal, leading to oil leakage.
Oil seal aging and improper assembly: The lip of the oil seal loses elasticity, hardens and cracks, or the shaft end has burrs and scratches on the lip during assembly. Failure to apply lubricating grease and hard tapping can cause tilting, all of which can lead to seal failure.
Deformation of the joint surface and cover plate: If the inspection hole cover plate is too thin, the bolt tightening force is uneven, or if the internal stress of the casting is not eliminated, causing deformation of the shell, the joint surface will be uneven, resulting in gaps and oil leakage.
Excessive refueling: The oil level in the oil tank is too high, and the gears vigorously stir the lubricating oil during operation, causing the oil to splash and accumulate in large quantities at the shaft seal and joint surface, exceeding the bearing limit of the seal.
2、 Thorough solution and standard operation
In response to the identified issues, it is recommended to adopt the following "three pronged" radical solution:
1. Clearing the "breathing" and regulating the oil level
Cleaning the ventilation cap: Simply unscrew the ventilation cap to clean the internal oil sludge. If the ventilation hole is too small and easy to block, it is recommended to replace it with a larger diameter oil cup type ventilation cap to ensure balanced internal and external air pressure.
Adjust oil level: When the gearbox is warm (for easy oil drainage), drain the old oil and strictly inject new lubricating oil of the same brand according to the equipment's specified oil level height (usually between the upper and lower limits of the oil gauge), avoiding adding too much.

2. Replacement and repair of core components
Replace oil seal and bearings: If there is obvious shaking sensation on the output shaft, the output shaft bearings must be replaced in pairs to ensure concentricity. At the same time, replace high-quality skeleton oil seals that are resistant to high temperatures and wear. When assembling, it is necessary to apply lubricating oil to the lip and use a special tool to press it flat inside. It is strictly prohibited to use brute force to strike.
Shaft neck repair: If the shaft neck in contact with the oil seal has worn grooves or rust, it needs to be polished or locally repaired with polymer composite materials to restore its surface roughness and flatness.
3. Joint surface leakage treatment (non dismantling technology)
For leakage at static sealing points such as the joint surface of the box and the sight hole cover, traditional disassembly and gluing are time-consuming, laborious, and prone to recurrence. Recommend using polymer composite materials for on-site treatment. This type of material has excellent adhesion, oil resistance, and a tensile strength of up to 350%, which can absorb vibrations during equipment operation. Without disassembling the gearbox, it can be directly applied externally to cover the leakage point, quickly cure and stop leakage, and completely solve the gap leakage caused by vibration.
